Ko — Learn to Play Go

Ko prevents an immediate return to the previous board position. Watch Black capture one white stone.

White must play elsewhere (or pass). After Black responds elsewhere, White may recapture.

A ko threat asks your opponent to answer somewhere else. Ko fights can connect distant parts of the board.
